Love of Nature: Mary Lee

Years ago, I started my artistic journey by painting tole, which required adorning wooden objects with colorful patterns. I was able to hone my artistic abilities and explore my imagination thanks to this early experience. All that changed, though, when I relocated to Fredericksburg, a thriving city renowned for its artistic culture and beautiful scenery. This is where I fell in love with oil painting, which has since grown to be my favorite kind of artistic expression. Eager to improve my abilities, I enrolled in lessons in 2011.
These lessons provided me with valuable techniques and a solid foundation in the skills of oils. The richness of the colors, the texture, and the ability to blend different colors captivated me. I found myself fascinated by how light interacts with different surfaces and how it changes a scene throughout the day. This newfound knowledge encouraged me to seek out landscapes to paint, as I was inspired by the natural beauty surrounding me. Through this love of nature, I have learned not only about painting but also about the importance of passion and dedication in pursuing one’s interests.
My transition from tole painting to oils in Fredericksburg has been a transformative experience. It has opened my eyes to the beauty of landscapes and the joys of artistic creation. Engaging with this hobby has enriched my life in numerous ways, and I look forward to continuing my exploration of oil painting in the years to come.
First Friday Art Walk
